Immigrants Rally for Rights
By Khody Akhavi and Rodrigo Campos

On May 1, thousands of people flooded the streets of New York City for the third immigrant rally in less than a month.

The crowd chanted in both Spanish and English.

“What do we want?”

“Amnesty.”

Immigrants and their supporters danced to beating drums as the rally snaked through the streets of Lower Manhattan from Union Square to Federal Plaza.

"I see a lot of enthusiasm today," said José Méndez, who legally immigrated to New York from Colombia in 1991.

"They can build a wall that touches the sky, but the people will always find a way of getting through."
