John Stage, co-owner of the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, fell in love with a "unique" neighborhood that has "character" and "grit." The restaurant needs to be a little off the beaten track to avoid noise complaints, he says, and the proximity to meat markets is handy.

Stage opened the restaurant in December 2004 and welcomes the development that expansion will bring, but says he wishes existing businesses could stay. His block is up for redevelopment during the second phase of Columbia's plan.
