By Caitlin Johnson Some shoppers may think Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue are out of their league. And let's face it, not everyone can afford an expensive personal stylist. That's where Michelle Madhok comes in. Her company, Shefinds.com, caters to the spoiled shopper, offering personal stylists and weekend shopping trips to Manhattan with stops at the best restaurants and clubs, but Madhok's real passion is finding steals and deals online. “For most people Banana Republic is high end. Women are really busy and they don’t have time to go through ten pounds of Vogue,” said Madhok, who honed her eye for style doing consumer market research for AOL and as a personal shopper. “I am trying to make it easy to skim through and get what you want. Right now the way people shop the web is very male, it’s very search and destroy.”
The site also features opportunities to get for hard to find coupons and a forum where women can ask for fashion advice or pass along a hot style tip. It provides links to other blogs like Gawker.com, ShoppingBrains.com and Poshcity.com. Madhok promotes all kinds of brands from Gucci to Gap. This is Madhok’s paradise: unpretentious communication in the word of fashion. “I hate fashion shows,” said Madhok, who runs the company out of her Upper West Side Apartment and writes a fashion column in the New York Metro newpaper every Thursday. “They’re so insidery. I feel like my job is not to set trends but to access the trends.” |
