One
day. 24 hours. Seven stories.
For
this special report, NYC24 took to the streets in the city that
never sleeps. We thought it only fair that if the Big Apple
can stay awake every day around the clock, for 24 hours so could
we.
These
stories represent snapshots of events and places, some unique
to the day and some unique to New York. We go in da club, off
to the street fair, into the subway and watch spring blossom
in Central Park.
And
while our intrepid, red-eyed reporters worked hard to capture
the goings-on of April 18th, NYC 24’s very own Lane Johnson
performed the Herculean feat of the 24-hour photo-essay.
So
check it out and feel free to send us your
comments. We prefer compliments but take criticism in stride.

Esty

Our
Staff:
 |
Yetnayet
Aberra (Ethiopia)
joined the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in August
2003. She worked in Ethiopia for 11 years and is fascinated
by the infinite possiblities and the dynamics of new media
- bringing together vision, sound and writing.
|
 |
Saheli
S. R. Datta (Denver, Colorado) Saheli majored
in physics but decided to be a writer after all. An insomniac
blogger, she held the New Media fort down till dawn several
times this spring. She was perhaps a little overenthusiastic
about injecting some much needed color into our vision of
Gotham.
|
 |
Jennifer
Esty (Cornish, NH)
Jennifer fell (gracefully) into new media during the heady
days of the dotcom boom and never looked back. Before Columbia
she worked for Microsoft Ltd UK. She divides her heart and
her time between the US and the UK. |
 |
Erica
Gonzalez (Brooklyn, New York)
This Brookynite is at two places at once -- work and school.
She's been on everyone's case about giving the site more real
New York attitude. We're lucky it's not Brooklyn24.org. |
 |
Alexandra
Huddleston (Freetown, Sierra
Leone) A journalist and photographer, Alexandra is fascinated
by the convergence of media available through the web and
sees in new media the power to revolutionize journalism. She
also takes sneaky photos when you least expect it. |
 |
Lane
Johnson (Truckee, California)
With his roots in the ostensibly more laidback West coast,
Lane brings to the new media world some West Coast chill and
a head full of technical nerdery—not to mention his
photography. |
|
Pat
Winters Lauro (Suffern, New
York) Pat is a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Business and Economic
Journalism. Prior to Columbia, she was a freelance writer.
She was an adjunct professor of journalism at Rutgers. Pat
thinks new media is the wave of the future and wants to learn
all about it to stay topical. |
 |
Amy
Wu (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
Amy specializes in writing business stories that are quirky
and offbeat, perfect practice for NYC24. Before diving headfirst
into the world of new media, she worked as a reporter in Hong
Kong, Beijing and Monterey, CA. |
