Ellis and Liberty islands have greeted millions of immigrants and visitors to the United States for the last 100 years.

American Icons

The Statue of Liberty. The Immigration Center. Ellis and Liberty islands are home to two of America's most endearing icons.

More than 12 million immigrants passed by Liberty Island on their way to Ellis Island in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Their descendants are scattered across the United States now, but some have chosen to work on the island, where they welcome the one million visitors who come each year to understand their ancestors' journeys.
