Pets Need to Get
Around Town Too

Roger B. Spear started The Paw Mobile pet transportation business in New York City three years ago. As a pet owner himself, Spear saw the difficultly that pet owners in New York City often faced in trying to get their dog or cat to the veterinarian, the groomer, or day care. Since many New Yorkers do not own cars,
many pet owners are often forced to locate neighborhood stores or animal within walking distance.

Still not every neighorhood is lucky enough to have pet-care facilities so pet transportation around town is often the only option. Though small dogs or cats can be easily carried in travel cases, this is not possible for some pets, especially large dogs. Recognizing this need, Spear launched his business on his own with just an ordinary minivan. In the three years, Spear has seen his business grow as more New Yorkers learn about his chauffer services.

Most of Spear's customers just require cross-town drop-offs and picks-ups, but occasionally he makes trips to the airport for pets that are traveling with their owners. In some cases, Spear even transports pets out of state to New Jersey and Connecticut.

For one owner who lives on 74th Street and Park Avenue, Spear picks up a black Standard Poodle everyone other week for a grooming in Cedar Grove, N.J.

"I don't ask," said Spear, "I just deliver the dogs."
