HE NEIGHBORHOOD OF SUNNYSIDE once overflowed with Irish immigrants. The Irish presence still exists but the arrival of newcomers from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Central and South America has transformed the population's profile. Walking along Queens Boulevard, a visitor encounters a Turkish bakery, a Korean deli, an Irish pub and an Ecuadorian importer/exporter.

The Turkish community in Sunnyside is a growing population among New York’s new immigrants. They are adjusting to the American lifestyle with new opportunities for education, careers and friendships. But at the same time, they are holding on to their own culture and thriving.
